The 26% federal solar tax credit has been extended throughout 2022!
The Energy Policy Act of 2005 initially implemented a tax credit to encourage renewable energy usage. This was set to expire in 2008, however amendments have been made, up until the 26% credit previously scheduled to drop to 22% in 2021. The most recent extension made extends the 26% credit until 2023. At that point, the incentive will drop to 22% for residential, commercial, and utility installations. After that, in 2024, commercial and utility system owners will be eligible for a 10% credit, while as of now, residential installations will be eligible for 0%.
Any solar system owner (residential, commercial, or utility) who has their installation completed between 1/1/2021 and 12/31/2022 will be eligible to claim 26% of their system’s cost when filing their yearly federal tax return, with no maximum limitations.
While the extension of the 26% is exciting news for solar and future owners, taking advantage of this incentive is time sensitive. Endries Solar & Electric would love to help you maximize your return on investment by installing your system within the next 24 months!
